A Rose in the kichen

On Saturday, Rose, one of our older girls, wanted to help Uncle Michael, our cook, to prepare lunch for our family.

A rich, stewy, vegetable soup served with rice was on the menu and Rose was enjoying getting everything ready.

Much of the veg came direct from the greenhouses where we try to grow as much as we can – and you can’t get fresher than greens that have travelled a few feet from grower to table, rather than many miles by road or air.

Children are often suffering the effects of being undernourished when they first join our family and we see it as a duty to grow them in young people with strong bones, healthy bodies and lively minds.

We are currently raising money to give five greenhouses, which were specially developed for small farmers in Africa to provide shade, ventilation, pest protection and irrigation, a complete makeover.

It will cost £650 per greenhouse, a total of £3,250. Any donation, no matter how small, will help.

You can make a donation through PayPal https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/ChildrenofWatamu but please mark your payment “Greenhouses” so that we can be sure that is just where the money will go.

* if you would like to make a donation another way or require any further information please email our voluntary UK coordinator, Elizabeth Gomm, elizabethgomm@childrenofwatamu.org Thank you for helping us to grow a geener tomorrow for our children.
