Today we have an update on life at the Happy House from Papa Dave. In it he mentions the revival of a previous plan to build a halfway house for youngsters reaching 18 and who have no family, or no family members willing to support them while they go through college or establish themselves in the workplace. There was a time when Mama Sue’s idea of a halfway house was very much on our minds, but the successful repatriation of many children into families led to a refocus. Now, as time has gone on, we are finding there is a definite need to provide somewhere for children who, as Government legislation requires, must leave our residential care at the age of 18. We have managed to secure and purchase a site but must raise £50,000 for infrastructure and build. A proposal, plus costings, drawn up by Papa and the charity trustees will appear on the blog, in full, tomorrow.
