Helping sisters to settle

It’s lovely to hear from Happy House kid, Esther, how she and all the children in our family are helping our newest arrivals to settle in.Sisters, Elizabeth and Zawadi, were entrusted into our care recently by children’s services. The two girls, second and third from left, were living with their elderly grandfather in a region suffering from an extreme drought with no significant rainfall for two years. They were on the streets searching for food and water and not attending school. The girls hadn’t eaten for three days when them came to us, neighbours had given them water but were unable to spare food because they could only just feed their own families. Now they are safe with us for as long as they need to be, enjoying being with our children who are helping them to settle in both at home and at school. Speaking only a dialect of Girama that none of our staff could understand, the girls are now eagerly learning Kswalhili and English wiith the help of all their new brothers and sisters. Our children are being what our wonderful Mama Sue always wanted them to be “a caring and sharing” family and how proud we are of them. We desperately need sponsors for Elizabeth and Zawadi to help secure their future at the Happy House and to give them the best chance in life.It costs £20 a month to sponsor a Happy House child and to change a young life forever. To find out more email elizabethgomm@childrenoofwatamu.net
