Safe and Sound Appeal

Having ended 2023 on a high after what Papa Dave describes as the best Christmas ever, Happy House is starting 2024 on a low. ,Our children are all well and happy which is a blessing and we are so thankful to every one of our supporters who contributed towards making the festive season such a joy for them, but the fabric of our home needs a major and very costly repair. ,The makuti thatched roof which has served us well for almost 14 years has now be declared beyond repair and needs completely replacing, That will mean an outlay of £8,600 which is more than we can afford. ,The drop in income as a result of the pandemic’s effect on fundraising and the increase in the global cost of living, has eaten up our contingency and we will need to find ways of raising the cost of a new roof. ,Papa Dave and the trustees have decided to replace the palm thatch with a metal roof which, we hope, will be more durable when faced with the unusually heavy rainstorms we have experienced. ,The impact on the girls’ bedrooms is worst. The work has to be done as quickly as possible and so, reluctantly, we are appealing to you our wonderful friends for your help. ,Fundraising has virtually ceased since the outset of the pandemic and we are hoping that some of you will be able to help by organising an event in your area – anything from a coffee morning and cake sale with a few friends to something more elaborate.
